How you can become royalty (even when the birthright wasn't yours)

As I did my daily Bible devotional one day, the Lord made me notice something I had never seen. The scriptures say this:

"Now the sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel, (for he was the firstborn; but, forasmuch as he defiled his father's bed, his birthright was given unto the sons of Joseph the son of Israel: and the genealogy is not to be reckoned after the birthright. For Judah prevailed above his brethren, and of him came the chief ruler; but the birthright was Joseph's:)" 1 Chronicles 5:1-2 KJV

Once I read it, the Lord gave me this revelation:

  1. Reuben was born "into things" - meaning just by being born, as the 1st born, he would have become heir; BUT...
  2. His brother Joseph received the birthright by being righteous and so Joseph received a double portion which should have gone to Reuben; AND YET STRANGELY...
  3. It was Judah who became the prince or leader over his brothers. David came from Judah and thus our Lord Jesus.

What does this mean for you?

  • If you were born poor - you can still rise up even you didn't become heir through birth. Reuben should have had the double portion!
  • If you practice righteousness - you can overtake the one who was supposed to have the birthright - just like Joseph; BUT...
  • best of all, time and chance happen to us all and the one who applies themselves the most - as in Judah’s case they can become the strongest- the Prince

It means you and I have an equal chance to become the leader - this can apply to anything:

  • Spiritually - if you want to grow to become a mighty man/woman, strengthen yourself spiritually. Pray longer, study more, love harder - you will eat the fruits of righteousness.
  • Financially- if you were born poor but apply yourself to getting to know he secrets of wealth - finding a rich mentor, finding a good business advisor, reading the books from the wealthiest - you can inherit the throne that could have gone to someone who simply inherited wealth.
  • Physically - if you want to be the strongest, the fastest, the fittest - work hard to prevail over the others and become the chief prince - like Judah did.

There is a place in God's house for all sorts of vessels, whether born into it, whether acquired through righteousness and whether by physical strength and effort - but it seems that applying yourself fully to God's things (the same as physical strength) this seems to bear the most fruit.

So what are you going to do different? If you apply the same things, you did last year, last week, yesterday and expect to get different results, that is INSANITY!

Lots of love.

Your brother in the Lord.
