Learning from King Solomon's dangerous prayer

This message is extracted from the book "how to pray dangerous prayers." You can get the book for free when you subscribe to the Prayer army here.

Most people would not typically associate King Solomon with dangerous prayers. They would probably think of him as, the wisest king, the richest king, and the king with 700 wives and 300 concubines!  Solomon however knew how to pray dangerous prayers. In 1 Kings 8:22- 61 NKJV this long and dangerous prayer is recorded but some of its highlights (read it in full as your homework) are:

  1. He praised God saying: Lord, the God of Israel, there is no God like you in heaven above or on earth below (Vs 23).
  2. He realized that what he had done, great as it was, was simply not enough for a great God: But will God really dwell on earth? The heavens, even the highest heaven, cannot contain you. How much less this temple I have built! (Vs 27).
  3. He prayed specific requests of God. For example: When your people Israel have been defeated by an enemy because they have sinned against you, and when they turn back to you and give praise to your name, praying and making supplication to you in this temple, then hear from heaven and forgive the sin of your people Israel and bring them back to the land you gave to their ancestors. (Vs 33).

Why was this prayer so dangerous?

Prayer is dangerous not because of what we pray, but it is dangerous because God hears it and answers.  When Solomon started praying this dangerous prayer, he was standing before the altar (see 1 Kings 8:22) but by the time he finished, probably overwhelmed by the presence of God, he was kneeling in front of the altar before his whole nation (1 Kings 8: 54).

Prayer tip from Solomon's example: If you want God to hear you, when you start praying, ensure you repent of your sins before ASKING God for your needs.

To be continued…
