Why you should celebrate things like Holy Communion even at home

Most Christians know that Holy Communion together with Baptism is one of the two things the Lord Jesus commanded us to do, BUT for me, it is much more personal - more than just celebrating it in Church. I wish to share with you a personal story of why I, Wasake a slave of the Lord Jesus especially hold fast to Holy Communion.

The Commander of Heaven's Armies...

So in the first year that I got saved, or returned "Home" as a prodigal son after 20 years of wild living, I had been reading my Bible consistently for about 5 months... then about 1 week before my marriage to my now wife Brenda, I read the following scripture:

"Now when Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in his hand. Joshua went up to him and asked, "Are you for us or for our enemies?" "Neither," he replied, "but as commander of the army of the Lord I have now come." Then Joshua fell facedown to the ground in reverence, and asked him, "What message does my Lord have for his servant?" The commander of the Lord's army replied, "Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy." And Joshua did so." Joshua 5:13-15 NIV

When I finished reading it, it is almost as if instantly I heard the Lord speak, he told me that on the night of our wedding, we MUST have Holy Communion, and he would be there with us - the Commander of Heaven's Armies. My wife and I were to take off our shoes, for we would be on Holy ground.

Our wedding night...

Both Brenda and I felt it and we will never forget the manifest presence of the Lord that day - what some call "Kabod" - the heavy weight of God's glory or presence.

The Lord's presence was to show us first the importance of Holy Matrimony hence, he consecrated my wife and I, not only for our marriage but for military service in his holy Army. Second, it was for us to be united to him through Holy Communion, which is the Lord's body and blood.

Like I mentioned, the presence of the Lord was so heavy... even now when I remember it all these years later, I am still overwhelmed, and so for that reason Holy Communion is not "just a ritual" or a command to the Church but it is also VERY PERSONAL command from my Lord to my wife and I!
