I Survived a Car Accident in the Winter

I Survived a Car Accident in the Winter

By Pastor Dickson Wasake  ·  Senior Pastor, OurTestimony.org

— #TestimonySunday

My family — all five of us — were driving a 500-mile journey from Chicago to Minnesota. My wife had just finished her turn driving and I took over. We were listening to a sermon from an anointed preacher I love.

I never allow secular music or anything of that nature in my car. I often tell the kids something like: "We have angels with us, so the car is holy ground."

Not long after I took over, I saw a driver whose car had crashed into the side of the highway because of the snow. I remarked on it — and it seems that in looking at him, the car slightly moved toward the edge of the road.

The speed limit is 70 miles per hour and I was driving near that limit. Any slight movement on a slippery road at that speed, and you can imagine what follows.

That morning as we left, I felt the Holy Spirit say I should not drive over the limit. I am glad I was not.

Back to the car: in the twinkling of an eye, the car began skidding over a patch of snow. I took my foot off the brake and let it slow down, but even then it was hard to control, and just like that — we ended up in a ditch on the opposite side of the road.

Nothing happened.

No logs. No fallen tree trunks. Nothing. We simply stopped in a snow-filled ditch by the roadside. And then, just like that, I drove the car up the hill, over the snow, and back onto the road — and we continued our journey.

My wife believes the angels of the Lord carried the car back up, because the hill was steep and with the snow, there is no natural explanation for how we drove out so easily.

My wife said all she kept saying was: "Holy Spirit, help us." The last born — our ten-year-old son, a boy of tremendous faith — simply said: "Jesus will help us."

And to think that when the day began I had asked myself what testimony I would share that week. It seems the Lord my God gave me a testimony for myself, so that I — and others — would know that it is he who drives and protects us. One second you are fine; the next second you are in a ditch.

Lord Jesus, thank you for delivering your servant and his family. Our trust is not in horses or chariots, or in the cars we drive. Our trust is in the Lord, whose angel encamps around those who fear him. Praise the Lord!

Maranatha!
