About Dirty Diana — A Warning for the Weekend

About Dirty Diana — A Warning for the Weekend

By Pastor Dickson Wasake  ·  Senior Pastor, OurTestimony.org

What are you doing this weekend?

I went to the barber today so that I could look clean-shaven and have people stop pointing at me saying: "Hey there's John the Baptist! Got some locusts and honey, bro?"

Anyway, whilst there, the barber decided to play Michael Jackson's Dirty Diana. In the era of Before Christ — BC — I knew every lyric. But sitting there, the words hit me differently now. The song is about a woman who pursues musicians and men of fame, offering herself freely in exchange for stardom. A real-life Dirty Diana. I certainly met many in my BC days.

She is exactly like the woman the Lord, speaking through his Holy Spirit, warned us about in Proverbs. She finds a young man and boldly tells him:

"I have spread my couch with carpets of tapestry, with striped cloths of the yarn of Egypt. I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon. Come, let's take our fill of loving until the morning. Let's solace ourselves with loving. For my husband isn't at home. He has gone on a long journey."

— Proverbs 7:16–19 WEBUS

I am praying that this weekend you will not be a Dirty Diana — or a Dirty Dan — and that instead you will pursue righteousness and joy in the Holy Ghost.

How Do You Protect Yourself from a Dirty Diana or Dan?

The same chapter gives you the strategy:

"Don't let your heart turn to her ways. Don't go astray in her paths."

— Proverbs 7:25 WEBUS

The primary strategy is not to resist — it is to run. You do not try to stand your ground. You run. You do not go near them. You do not allow yourself to be in compromising situations with them. The moment you sense the setup, your feet should already be moving in the opposite direction.

Joseph ran. So should you.

Stay well. Be blessed. Maranatha!
