God hates THIS thing

God hates THIS thing

For those of you who don’t know why it’s critical to be humble as a Christian. Here is God’s verdict on the proud (the opposite of the humble):

The Lord hates those who are proud. You can be sure he will punish them all. Proverbs 16: 5 (ERV).

The Lord Almighty has a day in store for all the proud and lofty, for all that is exalted (and they will be humbled). Isaiah 2: 12 (NIV).

In the same way you younger people must submit yourselves to your elders. And all of you must put on the apron of humility, to serve one another; for the scripture says, “God resists the proud, but shows favor to the humble.” 1 Peter 5: 5 (GNT).

It is a fearful and scary thing for a God who is typically seen as good to hate something. It must be EXTREMELY OFFENSIVE to him. Perhaps like a drop of poo in white bed sheets. Disgusting right? So offensive, it is not enough that he stops there, he actually actively OPPOSES such people and as that is not enough, he SETS A DAY to pour out his wrath on such folks.

So then, if God hates something, it is wise to hear him, lest you miss the mark of Christ and find yourself where the proud go –  where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Many of us have missed the mark of Christ because we don’t understand just how seriously God takes this pride thing, but now that we know how much he hates it, how can we ensure we don’t miss the mark of Christ in this matter? It’s best you learn from the one who modelled humility in the perfect way. See what the holy scriptures say about him:

In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross! Phillipians 2: 5-8 (NIV).

The mark of Christ is this – he had all the rights to be considered God, that is as the Most High. He, of anyone, should have been the proudest - but instead, he went the opposite direction. He became humble, or rather he humbled himself by becoming as a slave. What do slaves do? They do the most difficult jobs. They don’t answer their masters back. They suffer even for crimes they didn’t commit. They are often unpaid and don’t appear wealthy or pompous, often dressed simply. Yet – this “servant” Jesus was actually a king. You have missed the mark if you exalt yourself. You have found Christ if you humble yourself, clothe yourself with His Holy Spirit, and let Him lift you up, if He wills.

Lord Jesus, Come – Maranatha!
