Praying the things God cares about

This message is extracted from the book "how to pray dangerous prayers." You can get the book for free when you subscribe to the Prayer army here.

If you want to know what someone cares about the most, listen to what they speak about the most.  Jesus himself in Luke 6: 45 (NKJV) said: "out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks". The secret to knowing the things God cares about the most; the things that are on his heart, is to hear or to listen to what Jesus talked about the most!

What did Jesus speak about the most?

In previous research I did for my book Go! I obtained a list of the Top 9 prayer requests of Christians (per belief.net) and compared them with the 14 things Jesus spoke about the most (based on the gospels). The results will surprise you! Here they are.

·         God's top things Jesus spoke about: God/Father/Spirit (376), Heaven (273), Hell (172), Making disciples, Prayer, Faith, Love/compassion, Deeds/works, Hearing, Second coming, His name, Satan, Hearts, Wealth/Money.

·         Top 9 prayer requests of Christians: Guidance and wisdom, Love/peace/happiness, finance, personal health, salvation, family issues, protect children, hungry and poor, grieving.

How to apply these prayer strategies to your own life

From the above, we can see that there is a DISPAPRITY between the top priorities of God vs what we pray for. For example, God's number 1 concern is about himself, his kingdom, and his glory, while our top request is for guidance and wisdom.

Instead, dangerous prayers should not be about us first and foremost, they need to be about God's agenda. While you address God's agenda, in the process he will address your issues and that is why the Scriptures say: But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Matthew 6: 33 (ESV).
