How I survived a car accident in the winter

One weekend in 2024 during the winter, my family and I (5 of us) were driving a c. 500-mile journey (about 800 km) from Chicago to Minnesota. My wife had just finished driving during her turn and I had taken over... we were listening to a sermon from an anointed preacher I love.

I never allow secular music or anything unedifying in my car as I often tell the kids something like: "we have angels with us in the car so for their sake the car is holy ground... "

Anyway, not too long after I started driving, I saw a driver whose car had crashed into the side of the highway, because it had been snowing. I remarked something like: "see the guy has crashed" and it seems in looking at him, the car slightly moved to the side of the road.

Now the speed limit here is 70 miles an hour (100 km/hour) and I was driving above the speed limit so any slight movement, on a slippery road with snow... at 100 km/hour you can imagine...

Early that morning as we left, I felt I had heard the Holy Spirit say: "Don't drive over the speed limit."

So back to the car, next thing I know after looking at the guy whose car was crushed, in the twinkling of an eye... the car started skidding over a patch of snow on the road. I took my foot off the brake and let it slow down but even then, at that speed, it was hard to control it and just like that, we ended up in a ditch on the opposite side of the road! Now this is the strange part.

Nothing happened to us.  We didn't hit any logs, no fallen tree trunks, nothing... we just stopped in the ditch by the road side... a snow filled ditch on a hill side! Well then just like that, I drove the car up the hill, over the snow and back onto the road and we continued driving! I was quite shaken for a while over that and later had to pray to the Lord to remove the trauma, but there was no physical harm to us and NOT even a scratch on the car.

My wife tells me that as the accident was unfolding, I simply said at the time: "Oh my God" and then kept quiet... She on the other hand says she was saying: "Holy Spirit help us..."  Meanwhile, the last born, who was 10 at the time, a boy of tremendous faith, said he simply said: "Jesus will help us."

"Strike the shepherd and the sheep will be scattered..." the scriptures say (Zechariah 13: 7), I bless God who did not let me and my family come to harm. What then would have been of this great work he has given me to lead? I also repented to the Lord for not obeying the speed limit, for the Scriptures tell us to obey the law/rules for rulers are appointed by God. (Romans 13: 1-2).

Thanksgiving prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for delivering your servant and his family for now I know that our trust is not in horses or chariots or the cars we drive (just because I drive a large SUV as most American cars are doesn't mean I am safe) our trust is in the Lord whose angel encamps around those who fear him! Praise the Lord!
