Be careful about the leaders you submit to

I once read a scripture (and discussed it with my wife). It was very interesting:

"If the anointed priest sins, bringing guilt on the people, he must bring to the Lord a young bull without blemish as a sin offering for the sin he has committed." Leviticus 4:3 BSB

This scripture is showing that the sin of the high priest - even a personal sin (say gossiping) was actually bringing guilt on the entire nation of Israel.

As you read the Bible, in many places, you will start to see clearly that when God chooses a representative to stand "in the gap" their actions have profound actions on people - think of it:

One man, Adam sinned - but we are still feeling the effects. 6 billion today and the billions of others who have gone before us and the ones who will come after us.

This law or principle plays out in several places - in homes, at work, in regions, nations, globally etc .

But what does this mean for you personally?

  1. If you have a choice in choosing who leads you, be careful. This is especially for women seeking to get married. That man will be your leader spiritually in God's eyes. Do you want him leading you? Could his sin bring guilt on you and your future lineage? It is critical that women choose Godly men!
  2. If you have a choice in choosing your spiritual leader such as your pastor, ensure the man or woman is God fearing, walking in line with the Lord's precepts: humble, able to teach, not a lover of money, husband to one wife, not a recent convert.. and such similar guidelines in scripture (1 Tim 3: 1-12).

Ensure you check this person out, lest their personal lifestyle literally STAGNATES your spiritual growth. Think of it this way: how can this man or woman who is walking unfaithfully stand in God's courts and receive favour when they make prayers asking for blessing for the ministry? It is really hard, however God fearing the congregation is, for God respects authority! So be careful!

It is partially for this reason that you should pray for leaders, including when you have no control over some (e.g. presidents) because a God-fearing leader can bring good to an entire family, generation, nation and a wicked one can literally stymie your growth! So beloved saints, be careful!

I hope you are starting to appreciate how the wisdom of the Bible can literally cause your decisions to start changing daily. You will literally start becoming wiser and wiser in all you do and you will prosper, because of God's counsel... so make sure you are not skipping one single day for you need the fountain of life to guide you daily! Stay well and blessed! Stay alert and sober.

  • Be careful about the leaders you submit to
  • Being alert and sober
