When your best doesn't please God

In part 1, we saw a disaster where David gave God his best when he tried to bring the Ark into Jerusalem but God ended up "killing" someone and the day ended in disaster.  Why doesn't God always accept what is seemingly the best from us?

God is a great king so when you come to him:

  1. Bring him your best - no mediocrity please.
  2. Get to know his protocols. How does the King want to be worshiped? What kind of prayer does he like? Do not do your own thing - and expect him to accept you. That is why Bible reading is critical!

This is the mistake David made. He put the Ark of God on a cart instead of the proper way - it was supposed to be carried on the shoulders of the Levitical Priests!

The ones driving the cart also made a mistake to presume that God needs human help. His temple is not built by human hands and so we humans cannot "save" his holiness. This is why someone died.

How can we apply this lesson?

Learn to fear God. David learned his lesson from this tragic story and the scriptures say that from that day he "begun to fear God."

It is interesting to realise that God loved David so much and called him "a man after my own heart"

Did all that change on the day David learned to fear God? Could the secret to getting God to love you abundantly x100 and give you a place of honour e.g. as friend be due to recognising he is holy and thus fearing him?

I think so because in the New Testament we see Jesus say that the one who loves God obeys his commands! (John 14: 21).

May the Lord help you as you understand his ways! Please don't assume that because it is your "best" he will accept it. Learn to also understand the ways or protocols of the great King so you can do what is right (according to his standards) and then he can accept you, like he eventually did for David: "A man after his own heart."

Blessings and love.
