Part 5: the role of dreams as a spiritual thermometer

Thus far in these series you will notice that I have shared with you examples of dreams I have had. Why?

Dreams in these last days

From early on, the Lord started showing me that dreams are one of the important ways he speaks to Christians in these last days (other ways being from the Bible (being the written word or Logos), from Rhema (the spoken word/ voice of the Spirit), from Prophets and other Christians, from sermons etc).

Because of the importance of this mode in which God speaks, the Lord instructed my heart to keep a dream journal - it is a notes facility on my phone where I record my significant dreams - usually as soon as I have them, lest I forget or they evaporate.

When the Lord saw I had turned and “looked” (I am speaking metaphorically to mean he saw my interest), he started opening my inner spirit and I have received more than 50 dreams which I have recorded, I have even received prophesies through dreams.

The example of Joe Biden

As an example, I received a dream that Joe Biden would become US president (and then something would happen to him). This was at a time when every prophet seemed to be saying Trump would get re-elected in the 2020 election. About one week before the US elections of that year, I shared this prophetic dream with my “home church” and of course it came to pass, at a time when virtually no one else I knew was prophesying this.

In addition to the Lord using dreams to speak to his saints, dreams also act as a “spiritual thermometer.”

Dreams as a spiritual thermometer

If you are for example drifting from the Lord, he will often send a dream to warn you as the Lord has done for me numerous times.

Likewise, if you are for example really on fire for the Lord and you follow up on the dreams he gives you, he will often give you even more dreams - when he sees you have turned to “look” - like Moses (Exodus 3:4).

Many saints however get frustrated because they cannot seem to understand some dreams especially the symbolism.

Did you know God deliberately uses symbols in dreams? The Bible says: it is the glory of God to conceal a matter and the glory of kings to search it out. Proverbs 25:2.

Once you know that God is like a loving father who “playfully” sends his children on a treasure hunt using codes in dreams, you will stop getting frustrated when you initially do not understand your dreams and then instead start to enjoy his way of love and ask the Spirit to help you go on the dream interpretation treasure hunt!

If you are to live a daily holy life, you cannot afford NOT to have regular contact with the Lord so he can direct you and dreams are one avenue to measure yourself on how you are maintaining the “holy oil” resting on you.

Dreams and the last days

Some Christians wonder why they NEVER dream. Could it be that they have quenched out the Spirit so much that he stops communicating with them except very rarely, yet it should not be that way! Why? The Lord clearly says that:

““ ‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.”

Acts 2:17 NIV

This means in our generation we should be expecting to receive MORE and MORE not LESS dreams for the Lord’s coming is closer than when we first believed and also closer since the time of those who first received the holy Word and passed it down to us.

Practical tips

So, first tip is, try working yourself up in holy zeal by keeping a dream record and see if the Lord doesn’t return like a rushing flood… The Lord loves people who are zealous for him and his holiness and he even counted zeal as righteousness for Phinehas (Numbers 25:11) .

Christian Dream interpretation dictionary. If you find it hard to understand your dreams, to start you on the journey of dream interpretation, find a good Christian dream dictionary. Please be careful use only Christian sources! One such good source is a book called “the divinity code to understanding your dreams and visions”.

In conjunction with the Spirit, I have used this book many times over the years to help me in interpreting my dreams. It has helped me understand the symbolism God uses in dreams so I have gotten better at dream interpretation.

Additionally, to help you understand dreams - including the types in the Bible, how God used them and tips for you, the Lord got me to write an article a few years ago to help Christians understand this mystery language. It’s below, but it’s slightly long (so it’s for those who are serious and who the Lord is setting on fire), so save it for when you have some time. In it I also include an illustrative example of a dream I had of Ugandan stars Bobi Wine and Chameleon (I have never met them) and a possible interpretation. It’s from our sister website, Shaweleroad:

Hopefully now that you have these keys inspired by our Lord, happy dreaming!

To be continued…

Till next time.

Lots of love – your brother in the Lord and a servant of the Lord Jesus.
