Being alert and sober

Introduction

There is a group of folks who seem to think that once you make a confession of faith in Jesus, you are "safe" and can do whatever you want - because you will be in heaven regardless!

I have found that such people may be deceived.

The Lord expects faithfulness or "working out your salvation with fear and trembling" until the day of Christ, otherwise why would the Lord tell a parable like this below?

"But suppose that servant says in his heart, 'My master will be a long time in coming,' and he begins to beat the menservants and maidservants, and to eat and drink and get drunk. The master of that servant will come on a day he does not expect and at an hour he does not anticipate. Then he will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the unbelievers." Luke 12:45-46 BSB

The parable tells you that:

  1. Jesus calls many to follow him (or become servants); BUT
  2. Some become unfaithful - becoming drunk and mistreating others; SO
  3. Those who act unworthy of the sacrifice of Jesus will be cast in the outer darkness as if THEY were unbelievers in the 1st place.

See why you should never tolerate sin, just because God is kind and his grace abounds towards you?

Please do not take this grace and mercy for granted, lest the master find you asleep... And CUT YOU to pieces!

Yes, the Lord is loving but he is also severe, do not grieve him to the point of anger!

So, be sober and alert! Have you been faithful to do what the master told you? That is: "Read your Bible and pray every day if you want to grow" as a children's song went.

Do not forget to pray always, including for your leaders. May the grace of our Lord Jesus keep you.

Lord Jesus, come - Maranatha!
