Praying dangerous prayers that hit the mark

Introduction

Modern Christians have forgotten how to pray. Many have restricted themselves to only reading the New Testament, missing some of the ancient methods in the Old Testament that formed the foundation upon which Jesus gave his disciples the "Lord's prayer."

I have found that some of the examples of prayers in the Old Testament reveal the proper perspective of our prayers - God is Holy and Mighty, and it is a privilege to come to him with requests. Knowing this gives us even more special privilege when Jesus tells us to call God "Abba," that is, "Father" in the Lord's Prayer.

If you don't want to miss the mark of Christ and transform your boring or repetitive prayers into dangerous prayers, then you could learn as an example from the DANGEROUS Prayers of Solomon.

Most people would not typically associate King Solomon with dangerous prayers. They would probably consider him the wisest, richest, and the king with 700 wives and 300 concubines!

Solomon, however, knew how to pray dangerous prayers! Remember, his father was David - the David who wrote the Psalms, the Prayer Book of the Bible! Did you know that if you want to know how to pray, you should read the Psalms? The Lord God gave me this secret, and I heard his voice one day when I cried to him to teach me how to pray.

So, back to Solomon, in 1 Kings 8:22-61 NKJV, there is a long and dangerous prayer that, if you read it in full (as your homework), you will see some things that can help you to start hitting the mark when it comes to prayer. Some of the things you can follow are this:

  • Physical Position (e.g., standing and hands to heaven or kneeling).
  • Praising God.
  • Confirmation of promises from His Word.
  • Humility in request.
  • Confession/Praying for mercy/forgiveness.
  • Blessing others.

When Solomon finished praying, the prayer included the above - FIRE CAME DOWN from Heaven! Did you know this? See 2 Chronicles 7.  So if you want your prayers to rise to God as a sweet-smelling incense, learn some of the ancient prayer strategies above, and then suddenly you will see this happening: It shall come to pass That before they call, I will answer; And while they are still speaking, I will hear. Isaiah 65: 24 (NKJV). Wouldn't you like that rather than missing the mark in prayers, year in and year out?  May the Lord help you, as he did for me, amen!
